Welcome Modern

Hello and welcome to my homepage. I am Michael Arpino. Here in this lone site in the sea that is the internet, I have prepared a site with a few things on it that you may find interesting, such as: philosophy, dreams, book reccomendations, and a few other things. I hope you enjoy... By the way please take the time to tell me what you think in the guestbook. You may have to scroll over some to get to the "sign me" tool because a friend messed up my book with a big entry. And please feel free to post in my discussion forum.

Open your mind to what it doesn't want to know...

Some of my philosophical ideas and beliefs (some you may have heard before):

  • Everything we see is just an illusion created by our brains. Our eyes aren't really seeing things, our brains are. That means that when we think something is a particular color, shape, or size it really may not be.
  • People aren't stupid, we are too smart for our own good.
  • If aliens exist, then they are are distant relatives from the future who are returning to earth to discover their origins. They look different because they have adapted to suit their nedds on their home planet.
  • If you have an excessive amount of adrenaline, you can do superhuman things. (this one's a no brainer)
  • If you believe in something enough and you almost totally convince yourself that whatever it is is true, your brain confuses itrself and literally makes the thought true. (freaky, huh?)

Book reccomendations:

*1984 by George Orwell*  I reccomend this book because it gives an all too true and fascinating warning of modern life.

*Perception by Irving Rock* This book is really interesting when it comes to describing how our eyes deceive us.

*Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam Jr.* An excellent book.

*Myst: The Book of Atrus by Rand and Robyn Miller* This is my all-time favorite book. Highly reccomended for fans of the Myst Games.

My opinions on dreams:

I do not believe that dreams can be deciphered and understood. They are simply way too complex. However I am fascinated by dreams and I often use them as inspiration for my paintings and drawings. And what I find so beautiful about them is the fact that they portray the most absurd things in very believable ways, for instance I have dreamt about a transparent farm tractor driving through rusted metal pillars. Now how often do you dream of something like that? And it seemed so real too... One of the links on my links page leads to a site that helps you find the meaning in your dreams (again I believ that that isn't possible) but it is a very interesting site.

I.Q.

Yeah, you've heard the term before, but what does it truly mean? My parents (and a specific formula) estimate my I.Q. at being a whopping 333.333....!!! How is that possible? I.Q.s have not been known to exceed 200! Ah, but the beauty of it is that I.Q. tests are way off. They can't really measure one's deep down intelligence, artistic ability, wisdom, etc... All I.Q. tests revolve around are numbers and bell curves. In my opinion a person must create his own I.Q. instead of measure it with a test. Go ahead and try it... How smart are you really?
